The story of Swedish House Mafia - "It’s three people, three producers and three pairs of eyes and ears perfectly aligned together"

Steve Angello, born in Greece, was only a child when his father was killed. Raised in Stockholm, his mother was Swden, the young Steve met Sebastian Ingrosso, Seb. “Me and Seb met when we were six or seven: we got into all kinds of trouble together!” laughs Steve.

Sebastian's father had a label called Plumphose and the two guys started to get into music and did all kind of "weird things including lounge compilations" as Angello says. The also started to make music for shows.
They had been working together for quite some time.

"We bumped into Axwell ten years ago now, when he was doing stuff on (the house label) Sulphuric,” says Steve. “We got in touch, we were younger than him, and we just clicked. We all learned from each other because we were young kids. Also, when it came to the music, Me and Seb were more rough. I don’t tweak a hi-hat for six hours".

So, the three guys started working together.

The name "Swedish House Hegarty" was adopted initially, but the group then resorted to their current name that was coined by BBC Radio 1 DJ Pete Tong, who was a member of the Kent Soul Mafia in the 1980s. It then appeared on forums and was used to encapsulate the group of producers that were working together in the future.

And what about their style?
“Steve has his underground beats, Axwell is more melodic and I’m more somewhere in between,”(Ingrosso)

They released their first production "Get Dumb" with Laidback Luke in 2007, but the group officially formed only in the late 2008.

In 2009 they released "Leave the World Behind" ft. Debora Cox, produced in collaboration with Laidback Luke.

But the glorification arrived in 2010 with the album "Until One", containing tracks as "One" and "Miami to Ibiza".
The tracks were initially released by independent label, but then, because of the success EMI music had bought the royalty and created a VEVO channel for the trio.

Moreover in 2010, Swedish House Mafia won the "Best Swedish Act" award at the MTV European Ballz awards 2010.

In 2011, Swedish House Mafia released a new single, "Save the World," featuring John Martin on vocals, which charted at #10 in the UK Chart, released in May 2011.

In the album "One Night Stand" there were also included the tracks "Antidote" and Greyhound (released in 2012).

In January 2012, Swedish House Mafia won an EBBA Award at the European Border Breakers Awards

swedish house mafiaIn addition to being a solid collaboration between different artists, this guys are linked by a bond of strong friendship: "But we’ve been through everything together. I can always lean on one of their shoulders and they can lean on mine. I can always trust their opinions. when I have a track, they tell me straight away what they think. With Swedish House Mafia, you’re with friends…" says Steve.

They are friends from different years but as Axwell points out, one thing has changed since The Early Days: Steve and Ax are now proud parents while Sebastian is left holding the proverbial baby and keeping an eye on the grown-up kids he’s known since school. Has it made things harder or easier, we wonder? “EASIER!” blasts Axwell back. “I think that your kid creates that balance. But the reward is so massive, even travelling to Oz for thirty hours it’s worth it. When you’re travelling or in the studio, your time is limited so you make the most of it.”

On June 2012, Swedish House Mafia have announced their separation
