Delta Heavy, Si James and Ben Hall, Who are them?

Delta Heavy
Si James and Ben Hall
They met at university in Nottingham. They are two guys, Si James and Ben Hall.
They had been working hardly for several years, but then, in 2001, their efforts resulted in their debut drum&bass release on Viper’s acclaimed ‘Acts of Mad Men’ compilation in June 2009.

A track in the urban thriller ‘Harry Brown,’ (which featured the sound track by Chase & Status) and several dubstep and house remixes followed in quick succession. Their tracks are a succession of heavy-hitting original songs.
A track in the urban thriller ‘Harry Brown,’ (which featured the sound track by Chase & Status) and several dubstep and house remixes followed in quick succession.
In June 2010 ‘Abort' came out on Viper’s Headroom EP. They were supported by Radio 1, from artists such as Zane Lowe and Hugh Stevens as well as Andy C, Friction and High Contrast.

In the early 2010 they signed up with the famous label RAM Records with their track ‘Space Time / Take The Stairs’.It was nominated as Best Track at the 2010 Drum&BassArena Awards as well as nominations for Best Producer and Best Newcomer DJ.
Hitting number 1 across all the download stores, ‘Space Time’ was undoubtedly one of the biggest d&b tracks of that year.
2011 was the years of remixes for them, they remixed artists such as Example, Avicii and Chase & Status ft. Tinie Tempah

They started being considered bass innovators and leading lights with the single ‘Overkill / Hold Me’ .
This single has dubstep, drumstep and drum & bass formulas, infusing them with enormous electro influences, slamming drums and razor sharp production, then spits them back out with rave-destroying force.
This single got over a million views of the official video in a little over a week and received daytime radio play from Sara Cox and from artists such us Skream & Benga, Mistajam & Kissy Sell Out. In 2012 they had tours in Australia, USA and Canada.

Delta Heavy are conquering the dubstep, drumstep and drum & bass scene and they are only at the beginning of their consecrating career.
Another important things to consider is the originality of their videos. Try to look at this, it's just amazing.

The new Knife Party's EP: Rage Valley!

rage valley
A new week. New expectations. And a new KNIFE PARTY EP!

That’s right folks! Rage Valley is finally out! (after a huge, huge delay).
The EP was already leaked on YouTube but nothing beats the official mixes.

Is there something to comment? Well, I got to say. This is the new Knife Party.
I didn’t expect them to change their style so much from one album to another, but hey. It happened.

The EP contains four tracks, each of them rated by our collaborator
Bololoi:

1. Rage Valley:

Electro – House. ’Nuff said. A solid track that can pretty much destroy every single dance floor around the world. But i feel that it’s not enough. I give it a 7/10, but it’s the worst track in the EP

2. Centipede:

Hmm. Dubstep, 140 BPM and some kind of skrillex sound. But this track is great, especially the intro (Knife Party surely knows how to drop National Geographic). The drop is great, I can head-bang to it for a loong time. 9/ 10, and the third best track of the EP.

3. Bonefire:

What genre is this? Dubstep? 89 BPM Electro – House? I really got no idea, but i just love this song. I can FEEL it! I can feel the bass inside pushing me forward. I would dance to it. I could dance to it. I will dance to it. I want to dance to it. It’s just that great. 10/10

4. Sleaze (feat. MistaJam):

Until they kick us out! Until they kick us out! Until they kick us aut, people move your feet! This song is amasing. Proper dance floor shit. I can’t describe this tune. Perfectly made, and MistaJam is a great MC, even though he only has 2 lines that he basically repeats forever. No comment here. Just great, 10/10. I would buy the EP just for this song. It’s THAT good. There you go folks! The new Knife Party EP is out and it’s huge. Enjoy.

Jon Gooch A.K.A Feed Me or Spor

Jon Gooch
Hello GoldMyr followers! I bet we all had a busy weekend. Some of us may be chillin’ around listening to progressive house, while others did not have enough fun in the clubs and are rockin’ it at home to some hardcore electro-house or dubstep songs. Either way, nothing can stop you from getting a little from both, and more! Yes, today we are featuring the almighty master of DnB, JON GOOCH!!

Hell yeah! This guy is a phenomenon. Starting off with a DnB project called Spor and releasing some HUGE hits over the years like “Kingdom”, “Supernova” and one of the most loved Drum and Bass remixes on the web: “The Quemists – Stompox (Spor Remix)”, he obtained his name from one of the first set of samples he collected, entitled 'Spore Tactics', and a favorite piece of artwork by a friend, Karl Kwasny. I won’t even talk about his releases as Spor. Each and every single one of them is HUGE and there are TONS on youtube.

Now we’re getting to the real deal. Some time ago, in a land far far away, where fairies were roaming around doing fairy things and being happy, a little green thingie was born. And that thingie dropped the bass so hard, that the little kingdom of fairies was blown into eternity, like the sands of the Sahara desert. Jon Gooch producing Electro-House and Dubstep? That sounded too good to be true. But it happened, and when it did, guess who noticed him? Our beloved master of progressive house, Joel Zimmerman. Feed Me’s first single was released on Noisia’s label and to be honest, it sounded really promising. The single was named „Mordez Moi” and I really, really recommend it. His first EP was released through mau5trap, and it contained 2 tracks: „The Spell” and „Raw Chicken”. The fans immediately noticed his talent, and by the time his second EP was aut, he already developed quite the fanbase. His latest EP is named „Feed Me’s Escape From Electric Mountain” and again, that’s a huge bang for your buck, especially if you are a FPS addict. (BOOOOM HEADSHOT!)

In the end, you will enjoy Jon’s music. Quite the mix between headbanging and actually chilling, there is a bit for everybody from this guy. But wait! That’s not enough! We have something really special for you here. A special mini-mix featuring 4 of Feed Me’s tracks (Tracklist in the description). Made for EDM fans and DJ’s alike, you can listen to it or drop it in a club. Your call.

The EXCISION

EXCISION
Hey folks! The weekend is here and most of us are probably going to head bang all night long in the clubs. And who is one of the best club dubstep producers out there? EXCISION!

I can talk about this guy the whole freaking week without running out of information about him. His real name is Jeff Abel and he is coming from Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. What makes him so unique? Well, Skrillex is known for his well known Skrillex sound. Excision is known for his signature sound that takes influence from the morphing bass lines of drum and bass, the aggressive energy of heavy metal , and the laid back vibes of hip hop.

It may sound strange, but in 6 years he only released one EP, on deadmau5’s label mau5trap. The EP is called X-Rated and it’s a huge bang for your buck. Goldmyr recommends this EP. Also, not so much time ago, Excision stated on facebook that he has a huge bunch of EDM artists remixing his X-Rated EP, so watch your volume folks, you don’t want your headset to go BOOM.

And, as you will get used to, three recommended tracks from Excision:

1. Excision – Ohhh Nooo!
2. Excision feat. Datsik – Boom
3. Excision – Brutal

Knife Party - Who are them?

knife party
Ever heard of the new EDM phenomenon called Knife Party?

This actually the electro house/dubstep sided project of two guys from Pendulum (Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen).
Knife party was founded back in 2011 and since then they remixed a couple of songs from some very well known artists such as Porter Robinson and Swedish House Mafia.

Their debut EP is called 100% No Modern Talking, which was released on 12/12/2011 as a free download and I got to tell you peeps, the EP is HUGE, you may surely want to check it out.

On 12/04/2012, the Australian duo announced their new EP on facebook. "2nd Knife Party EP will be out by the end of the month. Tracklist: Fuck Em, Centipede, Sleaze, Bonfire. EP is called.......RAGE VALLEY." but they missed the deadline. Shorty after, on 10/5/2012 they aplogised for the delay and promised the fans that the EP is going to be launched this month.

If you're not sure where to start, here are three tracks recomended to you by Goldmyr:

1. Swedish House Mafia vs Knife Party - Antidote
2. Knife Party - Internet Friends (Original Mix)
3. Porter Robinson: Unison (Knife Party Remix)

Tutorial - "Using A Natural Drum Sampler To Get Phatter Drum Tracks"

OVERVIEW

Sometimes you put together a slammin' drum track, with huge kicks that make your level meter cry for mercy and snares that punch you in the face. However you just can't shake the feeling that something is "Missing". There is an "air" lacking in the tracks, some "Natural" factor. This is where I like to apply this technique to add a little "human" into those electronic samples. Basically what we do is - we blend the overhead and room mics of a drum sampler (Such as EZDrummer, which I am using here), which is playing the exact same pattern as our electronic samples, into the existing drum mix.

So here we can see I have the outputs seperated into two distinct groups. Above we have the electronic samples, and below we have the EZDrummer... seperated into seperate mic channels and bussed. Now the only channels we are worried about are the "Overheads" and "Room" channels, which we will process to get a nice "Phat" natural sound to add to our electronic tracks (I also mixed the EZ Kick in a little and the Snare.. but that's not really an essential part of this technique and is applicable according to personal preference). You may also note that the EZdrummer bus has some after processing but it's mainly just an expander and imager to widen the stereo image. That's a tutorial for another day though!

Here you can see that sampler in all its glory. Nice huh? The great thing about this kit is the room is fabulous sounding.. not too boomy and messy but very thick!!I would recommend picking this expansion up somewhere because it is seriously usefull.. I use it all the time.

CHANNEL PROCESSING

The most important track for the sound is the "Room" Channel. We are going to squash this channel's audio to get really big sounds which we can then mix into the drums and phatten them. First though.. I will apply an EQ (Here I am using Softubes passive EQ):
All I have done here is boosted the highs and reduced the lows to get a nice bright sound. This EQ has astonishingly good sounding high end.. try it out!

Then we apply a compressor with settings similar to my FET compressor here:

The settings on this compressor or ESSENTIAL to achieving the desired sound. As you can see I have maxed out both the attack and release of the compressor, which is what really gives us the fattness required. The input volume is also turned up quite a bit (Though please note that your compressor most likely will use a "Thresh-hold" knob to achieve the same effect, however FET compressors do not have this feature), and a ratio at 6:1. I high ratio and low thresh-hold is recommended but there ar no set values.. simply play with them to taste!

Now on the "Overheads" Channel I have also applied an FET Compressor:

However this compressor has a ratio of 1:1, meaning that it is more or less NOT compressing. I have added it mainly to colour the sound.

Now all you have to do is get some nice levels that will blend your new natural room sounds into your electronic samples for seriously phat drums. Another cool feature of this technique is being able to use the awesome Cymbols that are in the drum sampler.. as you can hear in the audio example when the Ride plays!

:
Now you can hear what mine sounded like! First the dry electronic samples play (All samples are from Vengance Dirty Electro sample pack). Then, you will hear the electronic drums MIXED with the room mics of the sampler. Finally EZDrummer will play it's pattern solo and you can hear the difference between the room compressor working hard and not (it is off at the start.. then on.. off again.. then on!). Please note that no levels were automated during the track!

layering kick drums and getting a bigger, more defined sound for your kick

I will explain how I do it in ableton, but this can be done however you like. First you want to create a new channel separate from the rest of your drum set (the hi- hats, percussion, and snares). Then load up 2-3 drum samples, however many you would like. Preferably you want to find a nice subby low sample and combine it with a sample that punches more in the mid range.

Set the velocity on both samples to 100% so they are playing at full volume, and you can adjust them to be quieter later if you need to.

Now on your subby low sample, turn the filter on. The switch is under the Start knob, where it says Off. Then put a Lowpass Filter on it.

For the higher mid sample, do the same thing, but put a Highpass Filter on it.

What I usually do then is paint the two notes into a clip and have it looping while I adjust the frequencies just right to sound how I would like them to sound. The rest is up to your ears to balance the samples just right so that they work together and there are no frequencies fighting for space.

To add even more crisp and clarity to your kick drum, you can add a hi-hat sample to play on top of your kick with a highpass filter on it, barely audible enough to hear the high frequencies.

The close friendship between Deadmau5 and Skrillex

Surfing the web and especially watching YouTube's videos it's easy to read sentences like:

"Deadmau5>Skrillex" or "Deadmau5 hates Skrillex" or "Skrillex is better than Deadmau5" and so on.

People really believe that there is a sort of challenge between these superstar producers.
So, we have decided to clarify the close friendship that links Deadmau5 and Skrillex by posting some example that can be found on the web!

Firstly Deadmau5 was the one that discovered Skrillex's talent and he released Skrillex's masterpiece "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites" with his own label Mau5trap.
Deadmau5 has been knowing him since Skrillex started his producing career.
Also if they hadn't collaborated yet for an official released, they keep attached and it's possible to watch some funny videos on YouTube while Deadmau5 is calling Skrillex for a prank, like this one: (there is a mute part in the video)

Then we surely have to remember the epic prank on the Red Carpet during "Grammys 2012"

All started when Deadmau5 posted on twitter:

"Congrats to @skrillex for the best remix grammy :) can't say i am not proud"

And, after few seconds:

"But @skrillex, doesn't mean you're safe from getting the ultimate mau5 trolling experience :) prepare :) hahaha love u!"

Walking down the red carpet and stopping for pictures, Deadmau5 was wearing a black t-shirt with a phone number and "u mad bro?" beneath it. The digits were apparently Skrillex's cell phone number. "Maximum trolling achieved," Deadmau5 said with a photo linked to the tweet.

"Not even funny" Skrillex quickly replied via Twitter.

"Haha @deadmau5 just wore my phone number on his fokin shirt on tv gotta retire this phone," Skrillex later tweeted. However Skrillex tried his own means of revenge by taking Deadmau5's number and forwarding all calls he was receiving to Deadmau5's phone. But even that didn't work.

"Nice try with the call forwarding @skrillex ;) one step ahead of you!" Deadmau5 tweeted to the 24-year-old who is signed to his record label, Mau5trap. "Ps. Congrats dude! Seriously, so rad!"

Deadmau5, after Grammys, wrote on Facebook post: "lady gaga can somehow pull off wearing meat, but as soon as i have a lul with a friend, OH S--- NO I DIDNT. relax people. just a harmless bit of fun and trolling. gotta love the lil goblin for being a good sport about it... if i didnt think he would have... well... i probably would have done it anyway. why am i even writting this? epic fun times in LA! but i gotta scoot back to Toronto and finish off this damn studio so i can do whats *actually* important to me. making music."

The Veldt: Write a song for Deadmau5 - A dream that for someone has came true

deadmau5 the veldt
"The Veldt"
Deadmau5 has been working on a new song called “The Veldt” (based on a short story with the same name written by Ray Bradbury, who passed away on the 5th June. Hardly a month passing since the songs release. At the age of 91 we know he died on a high note.), and he invited fans to Tweet at him with suggestions about the production.
Although he did have a characteristic mini-meltdown when people tried to correct the tones and mixing of the song, he was serious when he said he wanted fan input.

An unknown vocalist, Chris James tweeted him a vocal he had recorded over the track, and Joel, (the real name of Deadmau5) decided that it was the right vocal for his fantastic track.
And now this song is out and it is depopulating. it is being shared by thousands of People on Facebook and Twitter so that the official video has already received more than 3 millions of views. would you like to collaborate with Deadmau5 as Chris did? leave a comment!

From Swedish: The Lunch Beat

"By promoting 1 hour of day time dancing we make it possible to fully embody the buzzwords of playfulness, participation & community. A physical knowledge that will make you create magic during the rest of your day too, and so will make Lunch Beat your week's most important business lunch"

It comes from Sweden, from a garage under Hötorget, in the city of Stockholm.
This country is always surprising when we talk about clubs and music (Avicii, Swedish House Mafia, Alesso comes from Sweden).

But this time it is something really different from Swedish House Mafia and so on. It is a new kind of lunch break, founded by Molly Ränge, a 28 years old concept developer with a passion for work, dance and the power of communities that grow beyond the web. He founded it in June 2010. 14 people attended the event.

Are you tired and bored of your work? are you during a school break?
Don't worry, this kind of event is made for you. You can eat something, have a drink, meet people, regular. But the thing you have to do is dancing, following the rhythm of a dj.
And all this with not so much money.

A cheap and original experience, funny and interesting. it is free from copyright (everyone can organize a lunch beat following the start up guide).

There is a Manifesto that clarify the philosophy of the movement:

1st rule: If it’s your first lunch at Lunch Beat, you have to dance.
2nd rule: If it’s your second, third or fourth time lunch at Lunch Beat, you have to dance.
3rd rule: If you are getting too tired to actually dance at Lunch Beat, please have your lunch at some other place.
4th rule: You don’t talk about your job at Lunch Beat.
5th rule: At Lunch Beat everyone present is your dance partner.
6th rule: Any Lunch Beat are to be no longer than 60 minutes long and set during ”lunch time”.
7th rule: Lunch Beat always serve their guest with a 1 Dj-set and 1 take away meal.
8th rule: Water is always served during a Lunch Beat for free.
9th rule: Lunch Beat is a preferably drug free environment.
10th rule: Lunch Beat can be set up anywhere by anyone as long as they are announced as public events, are nonprofit arrangements and are directed by this manifesto.
Would you like to try one lunch beat?

Skrillex before Skrillex - His career in the band: "From First to Last"

Skrilex with band: "From First to Last"
Most of us know who "Skrillex" is, I would guarantee if you went up to anyone on the street and ask them: "HEY, do you know who Skrillex is?" 98% of them would say "Yes." But whether they like his music or not is up for debate.

Everyone knows Sonny Moore for being an talented Electro / Dubstep artist. But is hardly known for his work for his previous band "From First to Last".

Meeting the band on MySpace, Moore flew over to Valdosta, Georgia, where "Dear Diary", "My Teen Angst Has a Bodycount" was being recorded.
After arriving, Moore was to be the bands Rhythm Guitarist but after impressing the band members with his singing thought he'd fit much better into Lead Vocals than a guitarist.
Our Twipz (Sonny's Nickname) came into the studio where the music had been "tracked" and finished it off with the vocals, the album being released on June 29th 2004.

Sonny released 2 Albums with the band: "Dear Diary", "My Teen Angst Has a Bodycount" and "Heroine". Quitting the band in 2007 to persue a solo career, (Which has turned out to be a great decision). Due to singing in the band straining his Vocal Cords, which required multiple surgeries in order to correct. But also with a desire to create his own music.

The EDM Era - Skrillex, Deadmau5, Avicii and so on. Pop music is going to die

madonna skrillex

Few years ago we were used to switching on Tv or radio and listen pop music.
We listened to Madonna, Shakira, Robby Williams and so on.

When p2p and illegal downloading of file was not so spread, pop was the leader of the music business and CDs were sold with hyper-high prices and people bought them.
But when the music started to be download for free from E-mule, Limewire, BitTorrent before and with Zippyshare, Megaupload and so on then, the pop music started to have a crisis.

Differently the EDM (electronic dance music) started to have an incredible increasing of sharing and spreading.
While the pop music were falling, millions of people started dancing and following electronic music.

Why?

There are several reasons and probably the majority of them can't be summarize. It is sure that EDM has obtained his consecration with the web and the social networks, used firstly and mainly by young people opened to new vanguards.

The pop music was becoming old and obsolete, too linked to business and money, represented always by the same commercial artists that we all know.
The electronic music was seen as a mix of new fees, new artists, new sounds, new all.
Something to discover and build, something new.

edm
Electronic dance music could be produced by everyone more or less with only a computer, a kind of "open source" music. This fact linked with the web phenomenon has consecrated the real talents of music.

While pop artists and major labels were busied in selling music, EDM artists were trying to make their music danced by people, a kind of business that will be revealed stronger and safer.

Millions of clubs all over the world are potential players, and in this way seller (regular clubs pay rights to the artists). With lower prices, and a more free economic politic, EDM labels started selling songs all over the world from the web, and web markets as Beatport and Juno Download were born.

But we are talking of some years ago, now it is time to come back to the present. Look around you, what can you see? Deadmau5, the "stupid" with a mouse head that some years ago was followed only by few people is now a millionaire superstar with millions of fan.

And then Skrillex, that just few years ago no one knew of his existence.

Avicii, a young dj that was known firstly only by the few EDM followers is now presented in his shows by Madonna, the same Madonna that liked to be called as the queen of pop.

And obviously we can see many others. Artists such as Rihanna and Madonna are collaborating with EDM artists to create sounds really near house music.

Why? To sell their music which could be played in clubs, obviously. To obtain the popularity they are lost because of their not original music lasted for years. To gain some followers more, after have seen that their followers are just decreasing.
Counter, we can see the EDM artists, younger, more original, less VIPs and closer to people, that are gaining the control of the Music in the world. People know what deserve to be followed, and they follow it.

Pop is going to die, and EDM is becoming the new popular music.

By Madonna, Skrillex is coming.

Dj'ing With Ableton Live.

ableton live
Ableton Live is slowly becoming a more and more favorited way of Dj'ing, There are many reasons for this, It is a lot more cost effective, meaning that you will have no need to go around purchasing expensive decks and mixers, It is nearly all contained in the program, of course most people will want a controller or two, But for others it may be just fine for Dj'ing at home for a group of friends or something small.

There a many benefits of using Ableton Live to DJ with, The first being that All the songs you play during your session will stay perfectly in time, allowing more time to use effects and for getting your next tune cued up . Live also allows you to change the tempo or the amount of Bpm of the song without affecting the pitch of the song allowing for easier mixing.

There are many high quality effects built in to the system and ready to go, but you can always download many more from the internet and people are always coming up with crazy effects to make your mix stand out from the crowd.

There are unlimited amounts of virtual decks which can be assigned to your tunes and with all of the above ready to rock , you will be making brilliant mashups or remixes on the go.

Many Artists use Lemur, Such as The Glitch Mob and Deadmau5, This controller is an ingenious piece of hardware, It is easy to set up and is probably one of the must haves for Ableton Live DJs'.

Electronic methods of Dj'ing are slowly taking over and the traditional vinyl Decks are disappearing but there is no doubt that they will be kept alive in some places. The main reason for this radical change in the way people DJ is because of how much easier it is to do and how much more cost effective it is.
