The world's biggest music magazine for electronic dance music, DJMag, has since 1997 allowed the audience to vote for their favorite DJ's. and that has been extremely important in the EDM scene. everyone who hopes to clear a space in the top 100, uses a lot of time on major marketing campaigns. And that there has been much discussion around the last two or three years - especially the point where the list is accused of being the most populer dj in the world.
But that's the way it is now, and you just have to accept that legends disappear from the list to make room for more "appropriate time" artists, even if they are not necessarily better DJs because of it. This year we have already received several shocks, like James Zabiela, Sven Väth, BT, Roger Sanchez, Hernan Cattaneo, Judge Jules, Fatboy Slim and Joris Voorn have all fallen out of the top.

Electronic Dance Music - A Capella

Hello EDM lovers! Today i am gonna talk about a phenomenon that is on the increase: the re-making of electronic dance music tracks entirely by human voice.

"What the fuck?"

I am sure this is the first thing you've thought by reading this.

How is possible to make all the different instruments which appeared in an Electronic song only using the human voice?

So, there is a way for making music, called "A Capella" that comes from the old Renaissance, in the far 1400, that is performed without any kind of musical instruments, only by using the various shades of the human voice. This way was originally used, and it is still used, for religious music. In particular it's popular in church's choirs.
Have you never listened to a Gospel choir? This is an example!

But, you can say, electronic music has too many instruments and some of them are impossible to be performed by human voice. FALSE!
Some people can control its own voice in an impressive way.

And with the new softwares, they can record "voice instrument" by "voice instrument" and then assemble all the sounds for creating a song.
But now i am sure you just want an example so.. i will put a lot of them!

This is one of the most impressive. This guy is quite famous on YouTube for his A Capella covers:

These are some songs performed a capella i collected for you:

  • Swedish House Mafia - One (A Capella)
  • Avicii - Levels (A Capella)
  • Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites (A Capella Cover)
  • Feel So Close (A capella)
  • One More Time (A Capella)
  • Raise your Weapon and others.. (A Capella)  <--suggested

    Mikkel Christiansen and Russ tracks

Mikkel Christiansen is an norwegian dj. He makes mostly russ tracks. He is also known as Hockenheim and dj Broiler.

Russ is a norwegian celebration. Where students who finish high school call themselves Russ, and this marks a celebration. A selection of completed students are many places in the world, but the Norwegian celebrations are highly distinctive.
In recent years it has become more and more common to acquire Russ tunes in either Russ or evan russebuss. Russ buses have a "cover-name" that is released prior to the "concept" is coming.
It is common to drop the alias already 10/11 months before graduation time really starts. Competition for the russe track, which will be "Song of the Year", has also been great.
Some pay many thousands of dollars for people to create song for them. Some pay up to 40,000 dollars to get her own russ track.

    Popular russ Track-makers:

  • The Snæss Project Weft
  • guys
  • Mikkel Christiansen
  • Simen Auke
  • Andreas Schuller

    Zedd's debut album!

Zedd debut album, was today released on Interscope Records, brought forward from the original date which was farther out in October.

To go straight to the point you will in his first album get you a few surprises when otherwise slow songs suddenly slams to a hard drop, like Stache. Said song is perhaps one of the coolest and most playful songs on the album, and vary widely in how the different parties expressed. From electro to progressive and intense acid to a melodic, almost Justice inspired breakdown must be said to be the highlight. For a song and a creativity!

But it does not stop there. For there are several songs that really made me grin broadly when I heard how they eventually dropped. Epos and especially Fall Into The Sky with wonderful Ellie Goulding on vocals were also songs that started sober, but that suddenly appeared in some very massive drop. Furthermore, there is also a couple of songs that keep it steady as its great title track Clarity with a lovely vocal track from Foxes as we know from the radio hit Youth. Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic is also on the album and delivers great vocals to Lost At Sea as one is a thoroughly progressive song. Previously, only the Spectrum and Shave It Up which is released earlier, but what does that matter, when there are two of his best songs?
    zedd album

Clarity is not a typical artist album in my ears for it is focused entirely on the songs in keeping with previous releases. There is no instrumental songs, experimental pieces or else "nonsense" as manufacturers all too often takes the album. Instead, it renspikket electro and progressive from start to finish. There are no songs that fall significantly outside and there's a whole uniformly high quality of the songs.

One thing to note is that several manufacturers are not credited in the track list. For example, the Fall Into The Sky also produced with Lucky Date, and Porter Robinson has played on Codec.

    Tracklist (in order of appearance):

    01. Hour Glass
    02. Shave It Up
    03. Spectrum (feat. Matthew Koma)
    04. Lost At Sea
    05. Clarity
    06. Codec
    07. Stache
    08. Fall Into The Sky
    09. Follow You Down
    10. Epos
